There are two main opinions on stopping heartburn. Many think that the best heartburn remedy is to stop it before it starts. Naturally the second opinion will be the other end of the see-saw…finding relief.

If we want to avoid heartburn, then make certain lifestyle changes adopting a proper diet for heartburn prevention and using common sense to avoid overeating.

Prevention is thought to be the most effective remedy for heartburn. Prevention eliminates not only the pain of heartburn, but the danger of other gastric problems that the heartburn may cause.

Push away from the table before you over eat! Eating too much is the ?#1 cause of heartburn.

Also, have a banana before your main meal. This has been reported an an excellent heartburn prevention method.

Even with the best intentions, our prevention regimen may fail us, making a heartburn home remedy necessary. As for “remedies after the fact”, I know of only two that are both safe and effective.

The first remedy is 1 teaspoon of baking soda stirred into about four ounces of water. Once you drink the water, relief is only a couple of burps away.

You can also use vinegar as a home remedy. A shot of vinegar with a water chaser will fix heartburn quickly. If drinking vinegar seems too harsh drink a 50/50 mix of apple cider vinegar and water in place of straight vinegar.
